Drumlanrig

Drumlanrig would have a decent claim to be the greatest country house you have never heard of. Being in Dumfriesshire it is well out of the way of any significant population. It is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Buccleuch and was built at the end of the seventeenth century. It is in a magnificent position, with views over surrounding forested hills.. It also has a magnificent art collection (including an outstanding Rembrandt). However the interior can only be visited by guided tour (which Jae had signed us up for) and no photos are allowed, in part because it is still a home. So all the photos here are of the exterior of the beautiful gardens.
