Maximo Park

I hadn't seen Maximo Park in ages, and indeed when I mentioned it to a couple of people they expressed surprise that they were still going. Well, their Shepherds Bush gig proved they were indeed still energetically performing. And one of the nice things about such a mature band is that the audience actually consisted of adults. Now don't get me wrong, I love youngsters, but they can get, well, a bit over-excited.

Maximo Park are, of course, named after the park in Miami where Cubans hang out. Well what else would a band from Newcastle be called? Paul Smith is as frenetic a front man as ever, in his trademark bowler hat. Genial, visually arresting with a fine strong voice, he is well worth seeing live. And yes he does sing in a Geordie accent.
