Neo-classical Athens

In addition to the ancient classical architecture that on really comes to Athens for, there are some attractive neo-classical buildings. King Otto decided to build a capital city in the mid 19th century that had touch of grandeur to it. One example is the National Archaeological Museum - see previous page, and below.

But its far from the only example. None of the architects are Greek - but Danish or German.

The Theatrical Musem

The University of Athens

The National Library- a Doric Temple with two side wings

The National Historical Museum
