Alishan

Another sunny morning, with forecast for rain ahead. So a bit more driving along scenic mountain roads for Thibault.

Having enjoyed a little stroll from a scenic viewpoint, on returning to the car we found a troop of macaques. They clearly are at home with humans.

Interestingly, while my intrepid companions happily lead me up mountains, I had to go through the bridge full of monkeys first before they would proceed.

But eventually we made it to Alishan. This is a heavily wooded mountain park, with its own little scenic railway. And here it was made all the more scenic by the mist (soon accompanied by rain) .

The woods felt like something out of Lord of the Rings. I half-expected an elf to appear out of the mist.

To get out of the rain, we went into the little local museum, showing the history of the park, mostly as an area for logging. Below is a photo of the railway, and its wooden bridge. Admit it, you wouldn't fancy a train journey over that.

As you can see, it was really coming down by now, and very foggy.

So train back was most welcome.
