London Grammar at Alexandra Palace

As it was a Saturday night and there were four of us going to Alexandra Palace for this gig, I hosted dinner beforehand. Then a walk up to the Palace just in time to catch the support act, Eloise. Verdict? Just bad jazz. Sigh

London Grammar on the other hand were just stunning. As the name suggests, a London band so this was their sort of homecoming gig. And they had sold out Alexandra Palace two nights running which is no mean feat. Hannah Reid has such a wonderful, sweet voice, but one might think their sound would struggle in such a big venue. But it really didn't.

They do sound wonderful, but Emma put her finger on it - some of the songs don't have a great hook, and those ones one sort of patiently waits for the to finish. Essentially it all sounds pleasant enough, but some bits are more engaging than others.

The other feature of the gig was they were very much touring their last album, Californian Soul. Which suited me fine as I like it but I think the others hankered after more from their debut album, If You Wait.
