Courtfield19, Razorfly, Transient Spirits and Wired for Ruin at the Dublin Castle

Gigs on consecutive nights, this time with my friend Pippa (with whom I hadn't gone to a gig since last Friday) and a Dutch financial services lawyer just over from Holland. Now the Dutch are known for being tall, and he was very tall. So obviously he wanted to stand at the back just as I wanted to stand at the front, being short. So we compromised by standing at the side.

By the end of the first act I was getting looks to say "Why did you bring me to this?" Wired For Ruin were appalling. Put it this way, the bloke who was lead vocalist reached for notes very confidently, but only occasionally made them. The female vocalist, by contrast, never made any.

Fortunately the second band, a trio called Transient Spirits were vastly better. Their vocalist was really good, although for such a tall man for some reason I expected a deeper voice....

Main support were Razorfly, who had also played the last time I had seen Courtfield 19. For good reason. The guitarist on the left (sorry for the blur) plays guitar for both bands! A long night's work. They are a really good solid rock band who play their own compositions

And finally Courtfield 19 who play no original compositions. A purely covers band, but all their stuff, from Rolling Stones to Rage Against the Machine, sound "their's". They put their stamp on the whole repertoire, including a clever medley of Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby. The Welshman on lead vocals has everything - wit, personality and stunningly good voice. Just the most fun you could imagine for £11. With a free sauna thrown in. It was very hot. Sold out crowd.

 Just a great Friday night.
