Suomenlinna fortress

My last excursion from Helsinki was a rather shorter boat trip to the Sea Fort at Suomenlinna. Its about 15 minutes away, compared to the 90 minutes to Tallinn. The fortress is actually older than Helsinki. Its a favourite spot for picnics and is a bit of a dream for families with small children - an island for the little darlings to run around in, but being a ruined fortress, there are lots of little tunnels and gun placements to scamper into, and some big cannon to climb over.

And very windy, which someone took advantage of....

There are also a few museums for the older generation, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for that. But a nice place to potter around. And take photos. Yes, very photogenic on a sunny day.
