Lincoln

A hot tip for Oscars this film. For Daniel Day Lewis playing Lincoln I wouldn't quibble. He is terrific

But for the film itself? Nah. Far too worthy to be enjoyable.Too much of the dialogue feels like a speech rather than just speech, even when just conversing with his wife or servant. Trying to get real drama out of a congressional vote (even on the abolition of slavery) takes a lot of doing. But that really is the whole story. Unfortunately there is also the minor matter of Lincoln's assassination, which is just a little too large to totally ignore. If total fiction one would have gone out on the victory in the House, but then there was this strange little sequence tacked on the end about the assassination  although the shooting itself wasn't shown. So altogether not a bad or very boring film, but not a wholly satisfactory one either. And I won't lie; I was looking at my watch a couple of times.
