The Turn of the Screw

A little unusual compared to my regular theatre fare, this was a Gothic horror story  by Henry James. Not all together easy to describe, but basically two children seem to be possessed, or maybe stalked, by two ghosts - those of their deceased governess and her lover. As I say, not my normal fare, but an engrossing evening. The end of the first act did manage to have a number of bits that made one jump. The second act attracted one unscripted moment of comedy. At one dramatic pause  the old lady sitting two seats along, who had dropped off to sleep, managed an equally dramatic snore.

But it certainly wasn't a soporific play, the sets and lighting were brilliant (as is a trait of the Almeida) and the new (alive) governess played by Anna Madeley was very good.
