The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui

If Pride was not a bad evening at the theatre, this one was. Awful. So awful that Nigel and I decided to cut our losses and leave at the interval. It was that bad,. So bad that I enjoyed my evening ironing more than this.

Why? Well this is supposed to be a satirical play by Bertholt Brecht, comparing the rise of Hitler to that of mythical American gangster, Arturo Ui. Unfortunately in my view, satyr needs to be funny, or at least be such as one might raise a smile. This didn't. And it wasn't subtle. Rather it seems to make an easy obvious point and bludgeon the audience over the head with it.

Avoid at all costs.
