Manchester to New Haven

For our journey to New Haven I tried to pick a scenic route down the west side of Massachussets. Unfortunately the sat nav was having none of this and took us further west still into New York State. Thibault picking up on my agitation agreed to put us back on the track, but then grumpily noted the added driving time it imposed. And even worse my attempt to put Elbow on the car stereo led top my music privileges being withdrawn. Thibault can be hard man. However, he was restored to good humour by lunch. There are times he resembles that snickers advert. Give him a snack and Grumpy becomes Happy. (Although to be fair at no point does he become a dwarf.)

The main scenic stop on our journey was Kent Falls. Actually this was slightly disappointing. A 250 foot cascade sounds spectacular, but because it is a cascade rather than any Yosemite style enormous falls you get a lot of little falls over a quite long (and chilly) climb alongside the river.

little further on is Lake Candlewood, the largest lake in the State. Unfortunately it is quite built up and protected with barriers so not easy to find a nice spot to walk by it.  These photos might suggest otherwise, but were taken by poking the camera through a wire fence.

From there but a short drive to New Haven, home of Yale.
