Portland

We didn't have long in Portland. It was meant just as a place to stay the night with good food. And allowed Thibault to visit another karate club while yours truly did some early evening sightseeing.

We stayed at the Staypineapple Hotel, note the pineapple theme.

Anyway, I took a walk around downtown Portland and I have to say I was disappointed. It didn't help that two of the main sights, the Pioneer Courthouse and its accompanying Square were in the midst of building works.

I did like these bronze seals though - a good example of public art.

The American Bank Building

Jackson Tower

Portland Art Museum might have been worth a visit, but this wasn't a late opening night unfortunately.

The South Park Blocks should be a series of blocks making up an attractive park with the odd statue as below, and they are - but unfortunately frequented by the City's many homeless, making it an unattractive spot in which to linger

Potland also seems very proud of its reclaimed Waterfront Park. But frankly it is a little dull.

Suffice to say that I was unimpressed by the city and so was Thibault about his karate club. But we regrouped around some decent sushi.
