First stop on my tour of Costa Rica was Tortuguero on the Caribbean Coast. This is not an easy place to get to on account of the lack of roads. The start of the journey was indeed by minibus. We stopped for lunch at a cafe big enough to cope with coach tours for a regular buffet. The place's easy attraction was a butterfly garden at the back. I say easy as its a tropical area. Tropical plants grow, and butterflies aren't hard to attract.
Polystyrene Easter Island head. Slightly out of place, but fun nonetheless |
And further along the drive we came across a 3-toed sloth, climbing down a wire.
As I said, there are no roads to Tortuguero village, so we had to clamber on a boat for the last leg. The boats are really sightseeing boats. There was no specific room for the luggage; it needed piling on seats. Bit it did also mean we got a decent look at the river.
And finally reached our hotel.
