Cheshire Christmas

I know, not exactly traditional Christmas venue (Lapland, Austria, etc), but it is traditional for me to visit my friends in Cheshire.

Christmas Day involved a walk in Delamere Forest before it went dark. Quite soggy, but also quite atmospheric.

Christmas Lunch therefore became dinner. The traditional turkey. A bird to feed 14 apparently. As there were 5 of us, and one a vegetarian. We made a valiant attempt but didn't make much of a dent in it.

Boxing Day we went to see the latest Star Wars film. This has been widely panned by the critics. If you haven't seen it, it is far worse than the bad reviews suggest. Should really be the end of the career of every actor who decided to take part in it.

What was so wrong? Where do I start?
Cliche ridden plot.
Boring sword fights (I know light sabres, but really the same thing) scenes which you know will end in draws. Both protagonists facial expressions suggesting severe constipation. Hard not to giggle really.
There is only so much belief one can suspend. Like using a crossbow against intergalactic fleet  that can destroy planets. Or people making arduous climbs who at other points on the film seem to have the ability to fly.
Regular use of ghosts to provide cameo roles for dead characters.
Not funny enough to enjoy the comic moments, but too rubbish to be taken seriously.
Too much dying and then coming back from the dead. (That ruins the Bible too in my books....)
Everything really. Mostly just so corny it was unwatchable, unless you are a die hard fan or under 12. Frankly I think it was just lazy. They know people will watch any shit called Star Wars so why bother with a plot, acting, script?

Before returning home I had a morning walking with Dave on the Sandstone Trail. Unfortunately said sandstone had a good covering of slippery mud. Just what you want on a steep escarpment. Really would have been a very nice walk without the prodigious amounts of rain the North West had recently received.

Yes, that muddy...

The sandstone cliffs are notable for the quality of their vandalism. Graffiti meets calligraphy. The Victorians put a bit more effort in than modern youths with a spray can.

This is a first world war memorial, currently being renovated. (Closer photo would have revealed wire fencing.)

Fine views over industrial West Cheshire. On a clearer day one could have seen Liverpool.
