Montepulciano

Thibault took as almost an insult the explanation of our hosts as to how to get the bus up to the town. As if we would do anything other than climb up on foot....

Possibly this was one hill town too many for my companion. He was getting a bit blase about these sorts of places. Personally I can't have too many. Montepulciano is relatively small, and best known probably for its wine. But like all the others it offers great views over the Tuscan hills.

As with other such towns it features a main square - the Piazza Grande...

...and on that square there is an imposing town hall, the Palazzo Comunale...

...and a cathedral, Duomo S.Maria, although this is a rather later building than most of the others we had seen, built in the early 17th century.

Palazzo Nobili-Tarugi.

We settled in what was mainly a wine bar for dinner. And despite the fame of the wine, I went for a cocktail (with wine in it...)

The plate of cold cuts was definitely a cut above any of the others we had in Italy. I cancelled a second course. (Thibault didn'tšŸ˜ƒ)
