Percy Circus is an interesting example of architecture having to adapt to a difficult site. It isn't a circus, in that it isn't round but polygonal, and unlike better known circuses, it isn't on a flat sight, but slopes. So they did well to make it a pleasant spot although one "corner" does have a rather unsightly modern block on it now.
Its star attraction is a blue plaque for Lenin, who stayed there once before the Revolution. London has always had its trendy lefties.
And this is Bevin Court, another modernist block of flats in a homage to Soviet style, ie very little style and again, if it were not for its architectural importance you would think just another sink estate awaiting demolition.
Cruikshank Street is here. Long time home of the illustrator best known for illustrating Dickens stories.
And this unlikely square is Claremont Square. Other squares tend to have neat little gardens in them. This one has a huge mound, because it has a reservoir underneath it. Originally it was open but it was covered over after a cholera epidemic when they decided there shouldn't be open stretches of water.
Now one enters Barnsbury, and Barnard Park. I just went along the border of the p[ark. To the left are lots of sports fields and courts but I didn't want to take photos of young kids playing ball!
I rather liked these three old style shops
And this is Richmond Terrace, one of Islington's prime addresses. The Blairs used to live here. Huge houses and not on a main thoroughfare.
Richmond Avenue is distinguished by the houses down one side being guarded by sphinxes. Well, why not?
Although they painted in the eyes on this pair, which does make them look creepy.
This is Thornhill Square, just one of the very nicest squares in London with a gorgeous public garden in the middle festooned with blossom. Beautiful.
Somewhat out of place in one corner is the Byzantine style West Library
At one end of the Square is St Andrews Church. Scaffolding on it so not ideal for photos except is little glimpses
This would have been the ideal place to stop for a pint or better still lunch. The excellent gastropub the Drapers Arms. Soon....
