Gentler day of hiking in the Pyrenees

This wasn't meant to be a gentler day of hiking. Thibault had looked up some routes and were headed up for a plateau walk with some very attractive views.

But just as were getting to some steep bits Clarissa started to feel a bit unwell so we descended. (Nice it wasn't the old man who couldn't take it!)

So with a bit more research a disappointed Thibault found a lake with a dam which we could reach by car and then walk around. And this turned out the nicest walk of our trip.

An attractive snail

And a snake. Some sort of viper I think. Probably venomous but it scuttled away from us.

While there was no real climbing involved we did have to traverse a few streams that fed into the lake.

We earned some lunch - so charcuterie and pizza.

And then back out again doing the other side of the river bank walk that had been the end of our walk the previous day.

Smattering of wild orchids

And then a drink in the village bar - rather better view than a bar back home....
