Diiv at the Garage

With Luka at university I had no one to go see Diiv with, but since they were playing at such a convenient venue, the Garage, I thought I would just go on my own.

The boring part is then that one has to stand about waiting for the acts. I happily got to the front and awaited the support, Cusk. They were awful - a complete shambles. The songs themselves felt all over the place in terms of composition. And the lead vocalist had so much trouble with her guitar that a lot of the performance was taken up with other members of the band just improvising little bits of filler. Just chronic.

Diiv are an interesting band. Would fall into the category of shoegaze, but feel much heavier live - one doesn't expect a shoegaze out fit to generate a mosh pit. Alternatively one might just describe them as American geeks. Very into the technology.  Rather than engage live with the audience they had various pre-recorded satirical bits.

Not the most enjoyable gig of the year, but quirky. And very easy to get home from!
