Peter Hook and the Light

This was a mega long set from Hooky. Two complete New Order albums plus a mixture of other New Order and Joy Division material. I was glad I had persuaded my mate to come along early as it really was an early start. A tour de force for the 62 year old. Already have tickets to see him at the Royal Albert Hall next summer.

A weekend in Oxford

A triple reason to visit Oxford. The usual one to see my friends there, added to which it was Oxford Open House weekend when various buildings in the city are open to the public, and finally the real reason for this particular weekend, Oxford playing Coventry City.

For the weekend they seemed to be running vintage buses

One of the buildings we visited was Exam Schools, which I hadn't been in since I was doing my law exams there. Much more relaxed this time, and could soak in the grandeur of the place.

Our visit to this little chapel was cut off because a neighbour had died that day, and it would have been a bit unseemly for folk to be tramping past to peer into the chapel.

And finally the match between two struggling sides towards the foot of the table. To my surprise, a win for Coventry. Not really deserved, but a game which could easily have gone either way. What was a surprise is that it heralded  the start of a good run for the Sky Blues, somewhat out of the blue on the basis of this performance.

Dudmaston Hall

For the last day of my sojourn in Cheshire we headed off to Dudmaston Hall. As stately home, but with a quirk in that the owners haven't just got a collection resulting from some 18th century grand tour, but a collection of early 20th century modern art by Matisse and the like. To be fair this is not a top notch collection - the owners were not that wealthy, but it was an interesting diversion from the norm. Still the best part were the woodland walks around the lake.

Shining Tor

Rather different itinerary today, and different personnel. Alison was otherwise engaged, so dave took me out for hike up to the highest point in Cheshire (which is not to be honest all that high, and the prospect of hike enticed son Kit out of his lair.

The views over the reservoir  as we climbed up were pretty spectacular

And this is the tip. Shining Tor. Spoiler alert, no shining was involved.
