Up at dawn foe 11 hours on the road to Kafue, a journey made longer by frequent police checks of insurance, licences etc. Interestingly enough, things like being vastly overloaded or having defective lights (and as we found out later, most vehicles seem to settle on one headlamp and one rear light as sufficient for night driving) don't seem a problem.
There are some advantages to driving in Zambia. SatNav won't catch on. Just go straight on for a 100kms or so, then turn left and carry on for...You get the picture.
The lovely sunrise had to keep us going until finally hitting our lodge. We found that we were upgraded from tents to chalets (reasonably enough as they had just scrapped all their tents!) Beautiful view over the Kafue river, which we celebrated with our to become nightly bottle of champagne.and on arrival at least, we were the only ones here. And walk down from the bar to the little river launch from which you cross the Kafue river into the Park. Settled very happily into my 4 poster bed under mosquito net. However, by the end of the week I found even the combination of mosquito nets and copious quantities of deet were not enough to keep me safe from mozzies. The little buggers even bit through my socks. And thats before the Tsetse flies get going. Now they really hurt....
