Our Boys

Our Boys seems a very relevant play given the Paralympics and the aftermath of our involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq, given it is about a group of soldiers in a ward of a military hospital recovering from various ailments and injuries. However, it is actually set in the aftermath of our previous engagement in fighting terrorism, Northern Ireland. A grim subject, but this is one of those plays that tries to bridge comedy and pathos. Its a very enjoyable evening, but ultimately the comedy works better than the pathos. The plot is sound, and brings up subjects of betrayal. loyalty and class. But its not really any of that which would stay in the mind over the spoof Deerhunter drinking game, "Beerhunter"!

Not a well known cast, the best known I think being the chap who played Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films. Had at least one understudy in action too on the night we saw it, but the acting was fine throughout.
