Wetlands Centre

So what do you so when you have a day with a friend who likes bird-watching, when you are in London? Well you could do a lot worse than head off to Barnes to visit the Wetlands Centre.
You get out at Barnes Bridge.

And after a potter around Barnes Village Green...

...we enjoyed a jolly fine lunch at the Sun Inn - on the left here.

Not much further on one comes to the Wetlands Centre. What can I say about ths? Flat and full of ducks (and a few geese). Enjoy.

I love grey herons. Elegant, and they stand perfectly still to be photographed.

A mute swan

A little grebe in the copious reeds.

Bewick swan

 Red-breasted geese.

Some views from one of the hides.

The sand-martin cliff.

Ok, enough ducks. A decent walk on took us to the grounds around Fulham Palace. And what do we find there, but more Mandarin Ducks. Well to be fair they are the very prettiest of ducks.

Bet you have never heard of this palace have you? Well not that much to see, but an excellent pink gothic lodge.

The courtyard. As you can see, not crowded on a Monday evening.

Serious wisteria around the building.

The walled garden is odd, as it is rather short of flowers BUT it has a staggering wisteria hedge. Remember, this is the time of year to visit here - its all about the wisteria.
