Museum Van Loon

Even nicer in some ways than the Museum Wilet-Holthuysen is the Museum Van Loon. This is a house which has some history. Built in 1672 it's first inhabitant was the painter Ferdinand Bol. But it was gutted in the mid-18th century for more modern tastes, and then bought by the Van Loon family in the 19th century - a prominent Amsterdam family, a member of whom was co-founder of the Dutch East India Company.

The nicest part again is the garden with its coach house (and now cafe) at the back. I settled down here for coffee and apple cake, only for the rain to start the very second it was brought out to me. Hasty retreat indoors, but it was only a brief shower.
