Museum Willet-Holthuysen

In addition to the bigger museums, the "must sees", there are some nice smaller ones - the" like to sees". Museum Willet-Holthuysen should be among the top the list of these. Just a pretty interior designed for the pleasure of a 19th century couple of leisure

Anyway, before the house, some more Dutch gabled houses on the way..

Oh, and this would be a good point for my little rant. Amsterdam is full of f***ing bikes. Yes you knew that. But honestly, they should be banned. Ok better than roaring traffic but Amsterdam's street are too cramped for bikes. As a pedestrian, you can't walk down the "pavements" as they are full of parked bikes. And if you get past the parked ones you risk being run over by the moving ones. Who are of course just silent assassins. Get off your bikes and walk!

Ok, back at the Museum Willet-Holthuysen. Nice rustic kitchen leads onto beautiful peaceful garden - an oasis in a built up area.

Back nside one finds a grand but liveable house, with its own small ballroom..

Below is the Club Room - note the nice representation of men sitting round the table - indicated just by their collars.

The Garden Room is especially lovely. One can imagine happily sitting here overlooking that garden

Interesting presentation here as although the room is made light and airy by its whitewashed walls, underneath is the original decoration - displayed in neat slices on the ceiling

Large store room

Rather grand staircase for a relatively modest sized house

And here is Abraham Willet Holthuysen. Rich and eligible young man, but not a looker.

Note this sculpture below is actually in the portrait above by the window

This octagonal room is the Collector's Room - a place the master of the house could take guests to show off his collection of small valuables.
