Monument of Lysikratous

In amongst the winding streets of the Plaka is a rare survival, the Monument of Lysikratous. Actually, Lord Elgin wanted to snaffle this one too. It's a choregic monument, built to celebrate the winners at the annual choral and dramatic festival. Primarily they commemorated the rich sponsor behind the winning artist team. Think of it as a statue to Andrew Lloyd-Weber but without the need to see him.

It was made into a library by Capuchin friars, but it was left after the rest of the monastery was demolished.
