Glen Canyon Dam and Horseshoe Bend

Morning activity satisfied one of Thibault's cravings - a visit to a big civil engineering project.

Glen Canyon Dam is not as famous as the Grand Canyon, nor as much visited, but our guided tour around it was genuinely interesting. The town of Page where we had stayed was solely built to service this enormous dam built in Fifties and Sixties- you don't build something this big overnight. It takes a decade. It is in such a remote region the early years of construction are just to build the infrastructure that you need to set yourself up for dam building including roads and a town for your workers

If in the region you have to visit Horseshoe Bend.

It does get a fair few visitors

Sadly it was too late to visit Antelope Canyon, and even more famous site, but one that needed booking in advance. Another time maybe...
