Lecce

Like Bari, Lecce has a new town and an old town. The old town is limited by its city walls. It still has th gates for these. Our apartment was just perfect, just situated on the edge of the old town. As arrived mid afternoon we still have time for some late afternoon sightseeing.

Lecce is a sort of Florence of the South in terms of culture, but with its architecture predominantly baroque. It's very photogenic, so strap in.

The added bonus from my viewpoint is that it still has very substantial Roman remains. In the first place the amphitheatre.

And quite close to the amphitheatre is the Roman theatre.

The city only got more attractive as the sun lowered in the sky.

And then quite a different view again in the warm summer evening.

As I said, our apartment was just perfect. Not just in location, but in offering two double bedrooms, with original vaulted stonework. I took the mezzanine bedroom.
