Taranto

tarnto wasn't really on our itinerary. But it was convenient stop on the way to Matera. And as we were going I did mention to Thibault that it was reputed to have a great archaeological museum. So Thibault said let's go to it, which is good of him as I know its not his thing, and there was another archaeological museum at the end of our holiday that I did want to visit. Thibault was very good about it, whizzing through at his pace and then waiting for me at the end of every floor, reading on his phone while he waited.

As it happens, it was a truly splendid museum, very well laid out with lots of interesting exhibits and full explanations in English. I loved it. And Thibault was very patient!

Unfortunately it had started to rain as we headed towards the old town.

Despite a number of restaurant targets that were a little more local, we actually dived into a sushi restaurant. It was modern, surprisingly good value and all in all a brilliant choice. It tasted as good as this looks.

Taranto was worth wandering around a bit, although of all the places we visited it was the most run down. In parts pretty much falling down.

And yes there is a castle. Always a castle.
