Brockwell Park

Brockwell Park is another of those fine Victorian Parks that survive across London, all designed with  interesting features which make them proper places of entertainment and not just a patch of grass.

Brockwell Hall sits on a hill in the middle of the park.It dates from 1813 and was built by a wealthy glass manufacturer, John Blades.

As I said, it is on a hill, so has great views across London.

And this is Little Ben, less well known (or big) as its cousin Big Ben!

Like all such Victorian parks, it has ornamental lakes.

But best of all it has a truly gorgeous walled garden, brilliantly designed and planted.

It has the usual tennis courts etc, but what is this?

It is what must be the worst maintained bowling green of all time. Couldn't really be worse unless they dug holes in it...

But the park also has a lido. Not easy to photograph from the outside as it is a very plain art deco building.
