Saturday in Paris

A day in Paris. Lovely and warm and in a city famed for its culture.

So with some of the world's greatest art museums and galleries to choose from we went to... a language museum. And if you think that is a singularly unlikely subject for a museum, you would be right. Mostly there were just computer stations allowing you to explore a particular aspect of language. In all a bit like being able to browse the internet, but with limited web pages available.
It did have some exhibits too. Like this braille typewriter.
And a scrabble rug!
A collection of communication devices over the years

But basically not really anything to see. And not Parisian. It is run by a very passionate Kiwi. A hobby really. I think most visitors are schoolkids. In other words people who were taken there, not who chose to go....

As close as we got to Musee D'Orsay

We had lunch in a very decent French cafe

And then hit the river for a stroll in the sun.

With the inevitable walk around the Eiffel Tower - we did not go up.

Ad then to our second museum of the day. As I say, Paris has all the finest art galleries, so we went to the....sewer museum. Does that sound exciting? Stimulating? Merely smelly? Yes just the last. We had booked a guided tour with a time slot online. But were told that notwithstanding the website, they were not doing any more tours today....

So a bit more walking around. And I am afraid to say that while the sewers smell a bit whiffy, actually so do the streets of Paris and especially the banks of the Seine. The aroma of urine often catches you....

Our last dinner of the trip was at a posh Japanese restaurant. We like to have a bit of a blow out on our last night. Unfortunately this place, while big on presentation, lacked taste. Have been to many better places to eat sushi at less expense. We went for the taster menu, so lots of small dishes. Trust me they look better than they tasted. Not awful, just a bit meh.
