Going to the Zoo

"Visit the most beautiful zoo in the world" said the blurb. So I did.

I confess I haven't visited enough zoos to tell you whether or not the advertising fluff is right, but I can say its the most beautiful I have seen. Plenty of animals of course, but also some wonderful early 20th century architecture. And very child friendly. Contrast, say, London Zoo which concentrates on being animal friendly and big on conservation. Very worthy, but its detailed information boards are somewhat wasted on the clientelle, who are generally children under 5 and their harassed parents, because of their charging structure (exorbitant entry fees but tots get in free). Budapest is compact, you get close to the animals, notably the camels and giraffes, and there are plenty of attractive buildings to catch the eye too.

This peacock just roams the place at will, and doesn't mind having its picture taken.

Kookaburra

How much is that doggy in the window? Ok, its a fox.

Tthis fine specimen of stone age man just might not be scientifically accurate. Note the stone tool in his right hand must have been skilfully adapted to produce a fig-leaf to cover his modesty. Clearly a priority for early hominids.

Budapest zoo is compact, but with lots of fun for kids of the right age (which I would say is 5-12). Lots of fun as there are lots of places to explore - tunnels, climbs up the rocks, little playgrounds. Just a really neat place to go.

Any guesses? Its a Two-toed Sloth, although I admit not easy to count  toes in this position.
