Frightened Rabbit

Not the most inspiring name for a band I will grant you. And not the very most popular of indie bands, as recognised by the venue - St Johns Church in Hackney. Its not exactly the O2 in waiting.

But notwithstanding the relative obscurity I still managed to gather interest from 3 of my colleagues. so we made up a fair percentage of the audience, and it was at least a sell-out. And it was a sufficiently wholesome affair that, while it did have a bar, beer was only available in cans. It seems they were wiling to take the risk that we wouldn't use them to hurl them at the stage/altar. One suspects they were leasing the place out to fund the proverbial church roof - a glimpse up at the ceiling showed damp patches.

Support act was a highly unmemorable Scottish folk act who looked a little relieved at getting through their set.

Frightened Rabbit have actually been knocking around for a decade without making it particularly big. Which is a pity as I rather like them, particularly their faster louder numbers which see them massing guitars. Scott Hutchison is a fair front man. Particularly impressive towards the end was him leaving the stage to take residence in the pulpit. Rarely will a pulpit have been used to utter the F-word quite as much.
