Nafplio, Corinth and Epidauros

Finally getting round to uploading photos from my holiday in Greece last October!

Packed itinerary as ever when travelling with Thibault and Clarissa. Our opening base was a nice little flat in Nafplio

Fine view at night to the rear
And a hearty dinner for our first night. Started as we meant to go on!

Nafplio is on the coast and is particularly attractive at night.

We had a balcony too!

Next day we we went on to Ancient Corinth, which is a fair distance from modern Corinth, which is why I had never been before - it really wants a car! Nice museum before hitting the ruins.

The site is fairly impressive, although my photos have carefully edited out most of the people. This is not one of Greece's most famous sites, but it still had a good number of tourists cluttering up the place.

As it once looked

What Corinth tends to be best known for is its canal. We had to stop for this. More Thibault's thing. Big infrastructure. Difficult to properly capture how impressively deep but narrow it is.

Then on to another classical site, Epidauros, considered to be the best preserved Greek theatre in the world. It is impressively large.

There is more of the ancient town to look around but it isn't anywhere near as well preserved. So unfortunately, as the theatre is by far the best part of the ancient remains here, the rest is a bit of an anticlimax. But it is perfect for the tour buses as they can just disgorge tourists into the theatre, have the tour guide demonstrate how amazing the acoustics are and then whisk them all back into the safety of the coach in a few minutes. And the one plus point for me is that while the rest may be unspectacular, at least one has it almost to oneself to explore. Although of course this isn't a leisurely contemplation of the ruins - Thibault and Clarissa set a cracking pace when faced with a ruined city!

There was a small museum to round off my trip

Back in Nafplio for dinner
