Sunrises can be as impressive as sunsets. And we saw them as the first full day started with gathering at 5am for a bush walk. A slight misnomer in that a fair part of it was a game drive before we set off on foot the short trip to the river
Morning impala
The young ranger sat on a chair effectively on the bonnet on the lookout for game. Ok in this case the giraffe was not hard to spot. (Really nice young chap - a trainee - he was only 19)
Giraffe are always nice to see. They are obviously large. They don't tend to run off, allowing good photos. Interesting facts - they are noiseless - they have no vocal chords. And for all that neck it only contains seven vertebrae.
I might remark that a number of the people on the safari (it was a changing cast as we were not all doing the same safari in the same order) were German, including this gentleman. And they all happily spoke English in front of me, just for my benefit. And of course, extremely good English too.
In addition to the animals, one can also enjoy the landscape. This was the early part of the rainy season so green shoots starting to sprout. And of course one could enjoy the flora more when we started our walk.
Eagle at end of my zoom range. We saw quite a few
We made our way close to the Oliphants River. Scenic, and offering the chance to view a lot of hippos!
With attentive oxpeckers
And that is a very sizeable dung beetle
