Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage


I visited this place on my last trip to Sri Lanka. Had to set off before dawn to take this in on a trip to Kandy. Its well worth a visit. The timing issue is to get there for first feeding time and then to see the elephants going down to the river to bathe.

Its nice to see the herd against the hilly landscape.







 This poor elephant has a very distinct deformity...



 Then onto the "ring" to see the baby elephants being given their milk. Aah,










But in truth the thing that really is worth seeing is the herd down at the river. All that is missing is Tarzan sweeping down from a creeper. (By the way, I believe as a rule of thumb that you cannot have too many photos of elephants. So this is a test.)
