Maximo Park

This gig at the Roundhouse was to celebrate the 10th anniversary of A Certain Trigger, Maximo Park's first and sadly by far best album. I went with a young chap for whom this band was really his era, ie he was in his teens when it came out. It was a very good gig.

Unfortunately I can't say as much for the American Support act Beverly who frankly were so woeful I can't see why we would even give them a visa.

In stark contrast were Maximo Park who were on fire. Paul Smith is a truly energetic front man. Given his frenetic activity on stage its a tribute that only at the end of the first half of the set did he undo the top button of his shirt. Despite his expressed concern that he could barely fit into the jacket which he first wore on stage, he still looks very youthful as he bounces around on stage in his trademark hat. The others maybe do look a little older.

But A Certain Trigger is a great album and it was lovely to hear the album in full, even if Paul did manage to introduce one song out of order. The full airing allowed them to do their only real ballad, the sublime Acrobat. We loved this gig; well worth the admission money.
