Koszeg

Thibault's parents have a villa in the historic little town of Koszeg, close to the Austrian border. As do his elderly grandparents, but not for much longer. On being picked up by his father we went straight into action helping clear out his grandparents house prior to sale. For these purposes that consisted of two endeavours - taking stuff to a charity shop in a neighbouring town and moving a couple of items to Thibault's parents' place (below).

First item was a fridge, to become their new drinks fridge. This was surprisingly easy to shift. Second item was an oak bookcase. This was surprisingly hard to shift. Less surprising when one realises it is not oak veneer as one would buy nowadays, but solid oak. Lovely piece but not designed for easy removal. Especially not on a hot day. And especially when Erika really wanted it upstairs. And they have a beautiful spiral staircase. Beautiful to look and walk up, not beautiful for lugging furniture up. Luckily Erika reconsidered, I think in part swayed by the likelihood of one of her husband or guest breaking their necks.

Anyway, my reward for this endeavour was dinner at about the nicest, or at least most scenic, restaurant in the district.

Not quite a full moon

Koszeg is a splendid little town which should be much better known. It just doesn't quite have enough to attract a proper tourist trade. It is the sort of town which is nice to be in, but one probably wouldn't make the effort to get there. Other than as a day trip. It is best enjoyed I think as an evening out, strolling around the old buildings that make up its centre.
