Diros Caves and Gytheio

As you can see, our villa in Kardamyli was superb. This is a little, out of the way, spot. There is a larger tourist town a little further up the coast. This place is better known for its restaurants.

Interesting local insect life - on a large scale

Today our trip was to the Caves of Diros (which sounds like an episode of Dr Who....)

This involved a boat trip through the limestone cave system, but I must admit I had anticipated bigger boats. These were little punts

In all honesty we were a little underwhelmed. But it was different to our other experiences during the holiday, so all good.

We drove on to another small coastal town, Gytheio, for lunch and this was a big success. A nice place, nice lunch and then an interesting walk, featuring a shipwreck.

As you can see, the restaurant wasn't too busy....

Delicious fresh seafood

Gytheio also has a tiny ancient theatre - not exactly Epidauros standards. But of course even small Greek towns wanted their own theatre.

And then the shipwreck. Not an ancient wreck. A 20th century one. Quite possibly a ship that had been used for smuggling had simply been scuttled. But now it is a tourist feature. Strangely it is enhanced by a combination of rust and graffiti.

And back to base again for the evening. Love a sunset

We had a nice comfy sitting room to watch films on netflix

And found a cool looking bar for a cocktail as the sun went down.
