Interpol at Somerset House

The summer series at Somerset House this year had only one act that was remotely appealing to me - Interpol. Now you just know what you are going to get with Interpol. No personality, no animation. Just great indie music which results in their firm cult following.

In stark contrast, had never heard of the opening act, so no idea what to expect from the Lounge Society. I so wanted to like these lads. But didn't. They had all the animation one could want, but no songs. Which needless to say was a tad disappointing. I really like guitar bands, and they thrashed away on their's with alacrity, but to no discernible purpose apart from noise creation. They also took themselves far too seriously, as if they were earnestly conveying great art and meaning. Sigh.

But all in such a wonderful venue as the sun began to set.
I can't really say as much about Interpol as the opener. They are just very good, if you like that sort of thing, and I really do. They do nothing on stage. Apart from play. Barely any audience interaction. Even when having trouble with his earpieces, resulting in a halt in the play, there was no attempt at explanation.

Just to say it was great.
