Kafue to South Luwangwa

Long drive to Lusaka airport in the morning for hour flight on to Mfuwe. Now as mentioned previously, Zambia has long straight roads. This is fortunate because they don't go in for signs much. Whereas your average English town will have signs to a station every few yards, it appeared that Lusaka had just the one sign to its airport. Luckily everyone who asked for directions assured us it was straight on. And so it turned out.

Not a great airport Lusaka. Not greatly encouraged by the regular power failures while we waited. But our little plane took off just a little behind schedule.

Still we got to our lodge in time for an afternoon game drive, and to see another lovely position on the river. Ok lodge too run by a formidable German lady, Dora. And another nice pool which I made use of, at least when not overcrowded by German campers. One afternoon it felt like Stalingrad. We Brits just hung around for long enough and eventually the Germans, having held all the strategic positions (including the steps to the pool) melted away. (I say we Brits as there was a Devon family with late teen/early 20s kids too. The place just had a few chalets plus a lot of space for tents. And the pool was more of an oversized jacuzzi, but hey you don't come out here to swim for the Olympics).

Actually we had an assortment of others along with us on the game drives, including a lovely young couple of Austrian students, and 3 mad German blokes who were trying to cycle across Zambia and were most put out by not being allowed to cycle through the National Park. There are lions there guys! Come on get real. Meals on wheels or what.
