The Scissor Sisters

You do get an eclectic audience at a Scissor Sisters gig. Gay men you would expect, quite a wide age range from kids to the decidedly middle-aged. The surprise may have been the group of very large women in their 30s and 40s who hogged a disproportionately large area at the front. Diverse. And fun.

Able support came from Little Boots. She is little, and wears boots. What more do you want to know?

The Scissor Sisters are fronted by gay bloke Jake Shears (who has a fine vocal range, as well as a range of vests and  crotchless trousers - yes that gay) and heterosexual lady Ana Matronic (a stage name I would suggest). If either wanted to go solo that would be an awful mistake as they are always better as a duet. When one takes the lead, eg Jake for some of the torch song efforts, something goes out of the ensemble. Indeed, I am not keen on the ballads at all. They are a party band or nothing. Outrageous. Or in the words of one of their best numbers (although not played this night), filthy gorgeous.
