Edinburgh and Tom Rosenthal

My Firm having merged with a Scottish firm, our department decided to host a Scottish reception for clients in Edinburgh. The venue was the terrace bar at the top of the Hilton. Very strong on views of the city, as you can see.

We had a little outside space, although the best views were to be had from the inside with large picture windows. Here are some of my colleagues before the clients arrived.

One of the great things about Scotland in June is how long it stays light. So I got a few shots late in the evening as the sun started to go down.

Next morning was a bit of a rush to catch our train, but still managed a few more photos on the way.

A couple of train journeys all the way there and back were very pleasant too. Of course it allows one to do a fair amount of work on the journey, unlike flying. Although it can be all too much for some of my older colleagues.

Having got back to work in the afternoon, I then had a late night (well 9pm start) comedy gig to attend. Tom Rosenthal is the son of the sports commentator Jim Rosenthal. He has also had a fair amount of success in sit coms, notably Friday Night Dinner, but also Plebs. I had seen him before doing stand up at Reading Festival and wasn't much impressed, but he is a young chap so I wanted to see what he could do with an hour long stand up routine. From which I realised that he seems a very likeable young man, is inventive in terms of the form of his routine and, sadly, just not very funny. Unfortunate. Stick to the comedy acting, Tom, or get a joke writer.
