Karlstein Castle

I only made one trip out of Prague itself, and that was to see Karlstein Castle. Its only about 15 miles outside, and so the nearest of a number of such castles in the country. It is perched on a crag in the middle of nowhere, a perfect defensive point in which to stick your treasures in the 14th century, although like most castles everywhere from the middle-ages that are not in ruins, it was substantially restored in the 19th century.

On the plus side, its in a great position offering wonderful views across the countryside, and indeed fine views of it as one climbs up. On the downside, there is frankly almost nothing inside it. I can't show you how little as they don't permit photography inside. And you have to go on a guided tour. Our guide spoke both French and English, but in such a thick accent that it was really hard to work out if he was talking to you in French or English.

I claim this as quirky photo of the day......
