And its not the only such building by any means
A rare modern building by the river - the Dancing House, or the Fred and Ginger building, because one side looks like it is dancing with the other. Well a bit like that |
After a few days of culture I tend to look for a park somewhere. The problem with Prague is that all the flat bits are built on, so the green bits are on hills that are to steep to build on.. A leisurely stroll around a park is less attractive when the gradient is about 1:2. The answer is to take the funicular railway up the hillside. So I did.
This is a monument to communism. The idea is that it is people falling apart. Quite neat and striking. |
At the top of the railway there is a plateau with neatly laid out gardens
And an observatory
And a monastery
And an observation tower. This is a scale model of the Eiffel Tower. I decided to take the steps to the top - al 299 of them. Obviously great views from the top, but particularly nice was that they had opening windows, so one was wasn't peering through glass made misty by the hot breath and sticky fingers of all the earlier visitors.
Home of Sparta Prague |
But back down on solid ground for the real odd-ball construction - a mirror-maze. Now I try to avoid photos of myself, but in a mirror-maze that can be hard.
In the middle is a panorama of the defence of Prague against the Swedes
And then a hall of distorting mirrors
Back into the gardens of Petrin Park
