While up top are all the tourists, down the bottom of the Castle Hill one can find the Palace Gardens. An oasis of calm, untouched by tour parties. Definitely a place to bimble around. And truly an unpromising spot for a garden, up an almost vertical slope. These gardens have been restored since the Velvet Revolution with help from Prince Charles. Actually these are a combination of gardens. You are effectively going up one person's back garden, then edge across at the top and come down into the neighbour's garden. You can't really grow anything on such a steep incline, so you just have to make do by building terraces all the way up, with elegant stairs and little pavilions. And what you lose in terms of sweeping lawns you do gain in beautiful views.

Not a garden path for vertigo sufferers |

I guess the shed at the bottom of the garden, or the summerhouse |
