Palazzo Reale and Galleria Umberto

Now to see things under restoration. Big time.

First up, Galleria Umberto, a a smart 19th century shopping gallery. It will be terrific when finished, but at the moment almost impossible to photograph for scaffolding.

Palazzo Reale sits on one side of the huge Piazza del Plebiscito.

But when it comes to covered in scaffolding, well they have really gone the whole hog on the facade.

Although you can see one of the sides at least.

With great views across the Bay.

So for the Palace. If you like Baroque excess this is for you. I must admit I do like a bit of grandeur, and this place has it in spades. Would have been wonderful as a Palace. You would feel suitably humble coming up the stairs wouldn't you?

A fine warm throne room. I liked it.

And this is how I would like my office. Open plan? Pah!

And a couple of shots of Castel Nuovo in the late afternoon light.
