Montmartre

Sunday morning we had allocated for Montmartre, under somewhat leaden skies. We set off from the famous Moulin Rouge. The start of this walk is basically the edge of the red light district.

Part of the attraction of this area was the view it offered over the city. it is on quite a hill.

There are also still a couple of windmills, or moulins, up here, one a restaurant now.

This rather fun bit of statuary actually relates to the subject of a French short story, the Walker through Walls.

How French is this?

Finally we made it to Sacre Coeur. Unfortunately just as it started to rain. We did not like the look of the queues, so reluctantly we gave up going in and instead headed down the hill.I was about to lead the ladies back through the red light district. I failed to persuade them that the the Toy shops were not the French equivalent of Toys R Us, although they too were full of cheap but overpriced plastic playthings.
