Columbia was really just an overnight stay for us. Another comfortable hotel in the Wyndham chain.
As Columbia is the State capital of South Carolina, perhaps not surprisingly its main sight is the State Capitol. It is certainly a striking building, which unfortunately we were just too late to enter due to Thibault's dithering over some of the statutes outside. (Or he would claim my failure to race around the National Park fast enough earlier in the day.) A lot of the Statesmen honoured around the Capitol could only reasonably described as racists, which rather fascinated T, not least as some of the statues went up comparatively recently..

You can't get a more iconic picture than this, George Washington in front of the State Capitol |
We had dinner at a hip joint, The Motor Co Bistro.
At this juncture I should say we had eaten very well in the first part of our holiday, and this night was no exception. They just were a lot of decent quality restaurants about in these parts. So far so good.
