Deptford along the Thames

So I continued my walk along the Thames Path into Deptford, once home of the Royal Dockyards and a prosperous little town outside London. But for the purposes of this entry, it largely just offers great prospects over the Thames on a sunny Spring day.

As this was the Royal Dockyards, there were some well built naval constructions which have survived, although largely surrounded by modern housing estates. Which unsurprisingly I have tried to edit out...

This marks Deptford Strand

These are the remains of the Navy's victualling yards, to keep ships and crews equipped with supplies.

Cutty Sark in the far distance

This slightly forlorn park is Sayes Court Garden, where the diarist John Evelyn had a house with fine gardens in the 17th century. In another part of London this might be beautiful and well manicured, but this is just a bit bleak and looks like on a "low maintenance only" basis of care.

This mulberry tree apparently dates back to Evelyn's time

There is here just a tiny gap that allows one to go down to the river itself. Possible, but not exactly inviting....

This is a Chinese cultural centre now...
