Marseille Old Port

So when we got back to Marseille station (below) from Aix-en-Provence the youngsters wanted top go back to the hotel whereas I took the view that daylight meant more sightseeing, so I diverted back to the Old Port area

But first, very close to the hotel, the Arc de Triomphe, which stands in, if truth be told, a rather desolate square

The port area has a nice colonnade

Now, a particularly striking part of the port waterfront is this modern mirror topped canopy. It's a real feature and lots of people collect there to enjoy it. Other cities with some space might care to make note....

This North African family (I assume) of buskers were really ever so good.

The Hotel de Ville

And the opera house

With sun setting there was just enough time to get back and reunite with my companions for dinner. Actually this was the one disappointing restaurant of our trip. Very highly rated but actually very ordinary, wine included.
Razor clams

I shared charcuterie p;late with Thibault who scathingly described it as "supermarket quality"
. And more Lidl than Waitrose
The grilled sea bream was fine, but hard to go too far wrong
And we read a review describing that tarte tartin as the best tasted. Hmm, only if burnt apple is your favourite flavour!

Clarissa photographing it for evidence!
